Foundations of Mathematics (Freshmen Students only)

As you know, all freshmen students are required to take the MSU ACCUPLACER Math Placement Test in July or August. The results of the MSU ACCUPLACER Math Placement Test are very important, because they will determine your mathematics course placement in either Developmental Math (Math-106), Pre-Calculus (Math-113 or Math-141) or Calculus I (Math-241).

The goal of the online course is to assist you in improving your knowledge of mathematics concepts and skills, and to help you pass the MSU ACCUPLACER Math Placement Test with as high a score as possible, and improve your probability of passing the course once you enroll in it.

Here is a choice that you will have to make:

Choice # 1:
Spend five weeks reviewing your math concepts, completing all the required assignments, and participating in all activities. This will greatly improve your chances of getting a high score in the MSU ACCUPLACER Math Placement Test and start your first semester in Calculus I (Math-241), or Pre-Calculus (Math-113 or Math-141) .
Choice #2:
Do not spend your five weeks reviewing your math concepts, increase your chances of  getting a very low score in the MSU ACCUPLACER Math Placement Test and start your first semester in Developmental Math (Math-106).  Starting in Developmental Math can increase your graduation time by up to one and half  years!!!

Obviously, you will prefer Choice #1. Therefore, get focused on your ultimate goal (to get an engineering degree) and put your best effort to make this program a success. In order for this online course to be successful, it will require your commitment and dedication to cover the material you are supposed to learn, complete all the required assignments, and participate in all on campus activities if you live in the Baltimore area.
